How are event grades chosen?

Grades A–F compare published backgrounds, costumes, shiny opportunities, rare or high-tier encounters, bonuses, rewards, and the featured Pokémon’s raid and PvP relevance. Meta relevance uses PvPoke league rankings and raid attacker rankings; an eligible evolution counts too. A is a top priority; B is worth planning; C is good if convenient; D has limited announced value; F has few announced reasons to play. “Early” means details are still thin, so the grade may change. Grades describe the opportunity if you can participate; they never guarantee a catch or reward.

At participating U.S. stores

  • Mega Gengar appears more often in Mega Raids at participating retail locations. The caught Gengar may be Shiny; no Special Background is announced.
  • Open the game at a participating store to receive Timed Research by October 20 at 10 PM local time. Finish and claim it by November 20 at 10 PM local time.

  • A Gengar Knit Cap avatar item is offered with qualifying Pokémon GO gift card redemptions through October 31. This purchase offer is separate from event gameplay.
